In the new-generation 1.2 turbo petrol engines, the timing belt that runs in an oil bath gradually crumbles; the debris clogs the oil pickup screen, causing a drop in oil pressure and severe engine damage. Early inspection and timely replacement are essential.
On diesel CDTi engines, short-distance city driving causes soot buildup in the EGR valve and fills the particulate filter (DPF); a warning light, power loss, and regeneration faults appear.
On certain petrol engine groups, a weakening timing chain tensioner causes a rattle on cold start and camshaft sensor faults; if neglected, valve timing is thrown off.
