On 1.2 PureTech petrol engines, the wet timing belt that runs in an oil bath peels over time and sheds particles; these particles clog the oil pickup strainer, drop oil pressure and can cause serious engine damage. Early inspection and renewal of the belt-pump kit with original/equivalent quality parts is critical.
In stop-and-go, short-distance city driving, the EGR valve on 1.5/2.0 BlueHDi diesel engines builds up carbon and the DPF (soot particulate filter) fills up to the point where it can no longer complete regeneration.
