On EA888 and EA113 TFSI engines, oil burning caused by the piston rings and ring-land design is common. Consumption is brought under control with a piston ring overhaul or PCV/oil separator replacement.
On dual-clutch S-Tronic/DSG transmissions, wear of the mechatronic valve body and the dry/wet clutch plates causes vibration, jerking and missed shifts. It is resolved with an oil-filter change and adaptation.
Especially on early-generation 1.8/2.0 TFSI engines, a weakening timing chain tensioner actuator creates a rattle on cold start-up and the risk of chain jump. The tensioner and guide rail set is replaced.
On TDI diesel engines, carbon build-up in the EGR valve and clogging of the DPF particulate filter cause power loss and smoke. This is corrected with computerized inspection, chemical cleaning or parts replacement.
Cracking/leaking is common on the plastic-bodied VAG water pump and thermostat housing. It causes overheating and coolant loss; it is replaced with a complete OEM set.
