AdBlue System Fault Coverage

The AdBlue system is the heart of the SCR technology that converts nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the exhaust of diesel engines into harmless nitrogen and water vapor. The urea solution (AdBlue) injected into the system meets the hot exhaust gas to drive the catalytic conversion. The pump, heated lines, dosing injector, and inlet and outlet NOx sensors all work together. A fault in any component shows up as a dashboard warning and progressively increasing restrictions; most critically, after a certain "remaining km" the engine will not restart, as required by regulations. At Ulu Otomotiv, we read this system component by component with a computerized diagnostic device, identify the faulty part without unnecessary replacements, and repair it with OEM-compatible parts and guaranteed workmanship. The goal is to get the system running properly and legally.

  • Computerized fault diagnosis: reading fault codes from the engine, SCR and emission modules (e.g. P204F, P20EE, P229F NOx sensor and dosing circuit codes)
  • Checking the inlet and outlet NOx sensors against their measured values, and replacing a faulty sensor with an OEM-compatible part
  • Inspecting the AdBlue metering valve (dosing injector) for blockage, urea crystallization and leaks, then cleaning or repairing it
  • Testing the AdBlue pump and pressure circuit; resolving low pressure, no-operation or air leak faults
  • Service to brand standards for Mercedes (BlueTEC), PSA/Stellantis BlueHDi and VAG (TDI SCR) systems
  • Checking the AdBlue tank heater, level sensor and frozen/crystallized line issues
  • Resetting SCR adaptation values after repair and verifying the system with a road test
  • Clearing the remaining-km countdown warning and the no-start risk through repair

When Is AdBlue System Fault Needed?

If you notice any of the symptoms below, a prompt expert inspection is important.

AdBlue warning on the dashboard

If a yellow or red AdBlue icon or an 'Emission fault' warning is lit, the system has generated a fault code; it needs to be diagnosed without delay.

Remaining-km countdown appears

If you see a 'Will not start in X km' or 'No restart in ... km' message, the system has put you on a countdown; if it is not reset, the vehicle will not start.

Check engine light (MIL) is on

Faults caused by the SCR or NOx sensor also trigger the check engine light; emission values may have gone out of limits.

Warning did not clear after topping up AdBlue

If the warning persists even after you fill the tank, the problem is not the level; it points to a fault in the level sensor, pump or dosing injector.

Performance drop / power limitation

If the vehicle is not accelerating and goes into a speed limitation (limp mode), the SCR system may have engaged and put the engine into protection mode.

Problems starting in cold weather

In frost, AdBlue freezes or crystallizes; if the tank heater is faulty, the warnings appear especially during the winter months.

What Our Customers Said

A selection of real customer experiences.

“A 'remaining 800 km' warning had come up on the dashboard and I was very worried. They connected it to the computer and showed me the outlet NOx sensor was faulty, without suggesting any unnecessary parts. An original-compatible sensor was fitted and the countdown was reset. They work transparently and honestly.”

S
Serkan A. Mercedes E 220 d (BlueTEC)

“I topped up the AdBlue but the warning didn't clear. Here they found crystallization in the dosing injector, cleaned it and repaired it. Another shop had told me 'it all has to be replaced,' but here they didn't run up unnecessary costs. The workmanship is guaranteed.”

G
Gökhan T. Peugeot 3008 1.5 BlueHDi

“The check engine and emission warnings were lit together and the car was going into power limitation. They found that the AdBlue pump pressure had dropped, repaired the pump and ran the adaptation. They handed it back after a road test and the car returned to its old performance.”

Frequently Asked Questions About AdBlue System Fault

Quick answers to your questions.

Can I have the AdBlue system disabled?
No. Disabling or removing the AdBlue/SCR system is not legal and is contrary to emission regulations. We do not disable the system; we repair the faulty sensor, injector or pump to get the system running properly and legally.
Will the car suddenly stop when the AdBlue warning comes on?
The car will not stop while you are driving. The system first gives a warning and starts the 'remaining km' countdown. If you let this counter reach zero and the vehicle stops, the engine will not restart, as required by regulations. That is why it is important to have the warning diagnosed without delay.
I filled the tank but the warning didn't clear, what's wrong?
If the AdBlue level is sufficient, the problem is usually caused by the level sensor, crystallization in the dosing injector, pump pressure or the NOx sensor. With computerized diagnostics we read the fault code and clearly determine which component is faulty.
How do you tell a NOx sensor fault apart from a dosing injector fault?
We read live data with the diagnostic device; a NOx sensor will report incorrect readings (codes such as P229F), while a blocked dosing injector shows up with pressure and dosing fault codes (P204F, etc.). We identify and replace the correct part without unnecessary part swaps.
Is there a difference between Mercedes, BlueHDi and VAG systems?
The operating principle is the same, but the Mercedes BlueTEC, PSA/Stellantis BlueHDi and VAG TDI SCR systems differ in their component layout, fault codes and adaptation procedures. We service each brand according to its own standard and with OEM-compatible parts.
Is the repair guaranteed, and how long does it take?
Our workmanship is guaranteed and the process is transparent; we explain which part was replaced and why. The duration depends on the type of fault: a sensor replacement is usually completed the same day, while a pump or injector repair may vary depending on parts availability. After the repair we verify the system with adaptation and a road test.
